어바웃타임 대본공부 - day1

안녕하세요 여러분!

오늘도 쉐도잉 영어공부를 시작해봅시다!

---

제가 쉐도잉으로 하는 영어공부 순서는 다음과 같습니다!

 

① 영상을 보면서 대본을 정리한다.

② 대본을 토대로 모르는 표현, 궁금한 표현에 밑줄을 친다.

③ 한영자막으로 다시 보면서 블로그에 밑줄 친 단어와 표현들이 무슨 뜻인지, 어떻게 사용되는지 정리한다.

- 단어나 표현를 정리할때는 명사는 한국어로 최대한 나머지는  영어로!

④ 자막 없이 다시 보면서 이해되는지 확인한다.

⑤ 영어 자막으로 다시 보면서 쉐도잉한다.

- 입에 붙을 때까지 하기, 적어도 5번씩!

Scene 1 (00:54 - 02:35)

Tim: I always knew we were a fairly odd family.

- fairly: (=quite)

Tim: First there was me. Too tall. Too skinny. Too orange.

Tim: My mum was lovely, but not like other mums.

There was something solid about her.

- When someone states that you are a solid person, they usually mean, that you are a reliable, dependable PERSON.

Something rectangular, busy, and unsentimental.

- rectangular: in this sentence, may be indicating the behavior or shape of the human body.

- unsentimental: you mean that they do not allow emotions like pity or affection to interfere with their work or decisions.

Her fashion icon was the Queen.

Tim: Dad, well, he was more normal. 

He always seemed to have time on his hands.

- have time on your hands: have more free time than you want or need

After giving up teaching university students on his 50th birthday, 

he was eternally available for a leisurely chat or to let me win at table tennis.

- leisurely: A leisurely action is done in a relaxed and unhurried way.

Tim: And then there was Mum’s brother, Uncle Desmond.

Always impeccably dressed. He spent the days just, well, being Uncle Desmond.

- impeccably: emphasizing that it is perfect and has no faults.

He was the most charming and least clever man you could ever meet.

His mind was on other things, though we never found out what.

Tim: And then, finally there was Catherine. Katie. Kit Kat. My sister.

In a household of sensible jackets and haircuts, there was this,

 - household: 가정

well, what can I call her, nature thing. 

With her elfin eyes, her purple T-shirts, and her eternally bare feet, 

she was then, and still is to me, about the most wonderful thing in the world.

Tim: All in all, it was a pretty good childhood. 

- all in all: 대체로

Full of repeated rhythms and patterns.

Tim: By the time I was 21,  we were still having tea on the beach every single day.

Skimming stones and eating sandwiches, summer, and winter, no matter what the weather.

- skimming stones: 물수제비 뜨기

Tim: And every Friday evening, a film, no matter what the weather.

And then once a year, the dreaded New Year's Eve party.

- dread: If you dread something which may happen, you feel very anxious and unhappy about it.
